It can be a long road to launch for a video game and Chasm is proof of that. Starting as a Kickstarter project in 2013, I was excited to finally jump in and venture down into the dangers below. After some time underground, I came away mostly satisfied with what I'd describe as a polished throwback Metroidvania experience.
Once I got into the groove, I was running, jumping and stabby-stabbing everything in front of me like it was second nature. Probably because it is, frighteningly enough. The maps are procedurally generated and promise something "new" on future playthroughs, but the rest is tried-and-true sidescrolling. Thanks for the retrospective, Chasm.
Throughout January, the Games of 2018 will lead the way towards The 2018 Grimmys - Horrible Night's Games of the Year Awards.
