Feelings of fear and adoration surround my relationship with Subnautica. There's so much beauty contained within a game that could not contain more personalized deterrents from me ever playing it. Naturally, that just increases my attraction to it. I have never wanted to truly conquer a game so much in my life.
2018 was not the year where I built up the nerve to explore the most immersive open water video game. Every time I realized I had ventured out beyond a depth I was comfortable with, I was struck with the inability to move any further. While staying still I was able to see curiosities beckoning me to move forward. I will see them some day, but for right now they are also surrounded by a murky unknown and I'm not wearing the right pants to deal with those possibilities. Thanks for the patient swim lesson, Subnautica.
