The SteamWorld games have always put a big grin on my face. There's something charming about these robots and the cohesive world they live in. Granted, I did bounce off the previous games after a couple of sessions and moved onto more exciting gaming endeavors. SteamWorld Dig 2 started out like the others and I was happy with my time with the game. Then, my path started branching a bit more and the puzzles and platforming required a bit more of my focus. It's like I woke up out of an effortless daydream and jumped into a more engrossing fantasy full of addictive curiosities.
SteamWorld Dig 2 offers more than just a cohesive vision of a western robotic society as there's some real attention to detail and purpose behind the level design. Dig 2 remains incredibly easy to play but the added depth and density to the world makes it a much more rewarding experience. I didn't want to wake up. I didn't want to leave. Thanks for the layers, SteamWorld Dig 2.
Throughout January, the Games of 2017 will lead the way towards The 2017 Grimmys - Horrible Night's Games of the Year Awards.
