Never stop running. I hadn't woken up that gaming skill in years. I didn't know how important it would be to my favorite gaming moments in 2016. The game that woke it up couldn't have been more unassuming.
One look at Devil Daggers and I see my shooter roots with all kinds of Quake flashbacks. I'd say it felt like home, but I couldn't reflect long enough to soak it in. After all, the only points in this game is - how long can you survive? Sounds easy enough, but 60 seconds suddenly feels like a month.
The demons won't stop spawning, they won't stop chasing, they won't stop killing you from behind. I knew demons were mean, but after killing so many of them in my youth I had no idea how oppressive their relentlessness can feel. Thanks for reminding me to keep practicing, Devil Daggers.
Throughout January, the Games of 2016 will lead the way towards The 2016 Grimmys - Horrible Night's Games of the Year Awards.
