Out of nowhere, Dragon Quest Builders gave me the survival building game I have always wanted. It may not get as advanced with what you can build as Minecraft does, but it more than makes up for it with the JRPG elements it brings from the long running Dragon Quest franchise.

The whole first chapter has a great build to it culminating in a battle for the city and friends you have worked so hard to protect. I never experienced that kind of joy from Minecraft or Kerbal Space Program or even Starbound.

This was also a great game to play with my girls. They got so invested in all the people who lived in our city, knowing each one of by name. They couldn’t wait to get back to our world we were building and to fight off more Hammerhoods who insisted on tunneling underneath the city. Thanks for the foundation work, Dragon Quest Builders.
